(IDG) -- Samsung Electronics has developed a new cellular telephone with built-in television, the company has announced. Company officials say they expect it to hit the local market sometime in 2000.
The SCH-M220 features a 1.8 inch TFT (thin film transistor) LCD (liquid crystal display) which doubles as the main display for the telephone and the television screen.
A built-in tuner gives the user access to VHF and UHF broadcasts with a touch of the unit's TV button. The unit automatically reverts to phone mode if a call is incoming.

All of this comes without much sacrifice to battery life. The company says the unit, with a high capacity battery on a full charge, has a standby time of 180 hours, continuous talk time of 170 minutes and the TV can be viewed for 200 minutes.
The unit is the fourth such innovative mobile phone from Samsung this year. The company has also demonstrated a combined cellular phone and MP3 audio player, a cellular telephone built into a wristwatch and a cellular phone with touchscreen that features integrated Internet access.
