Palm Beach canvassing board member Carol Roberts, unabashed Democrat
(CNN) -- Palm Beach County canvassing board member Carol Roberts makes no apologies for the Gore/Lieberman bumper sticker on her car.
Republicans say she is in violation of state law, which forbids any board member from actively participating in political campaigns.
But Roberts, 64, told The Palm Beach Post, "I don't consider running around with a bumper sticker actively campaigning."
Roberts, former mayor and city commissioner of West Palm Beach, was the only member of the county's three-person board to vote Tuesday to continue a scheduled vote count by hand of the predominantly Democratic county's 431,000 votes.
The other board members, County Judge Charles Burton and County Elections Supervisor Theresa LePore, voted to suspend the count after Florida Secretary of State Katherine Harris said the hand count might be illegal.
Roberts told CNN she has been the target of death threats and has been under police protection since she gained national attention in the days after the deadlocked presidential election.

She is known on the board for her knowledge of transportation issues and her involvement in the Florida Association of Counties and the National Association of Counties, according to The Palm Beach Post.
