Ross is being honored in VH1's "Divas 2000: A Tribute to Diana Ross"

(CNN) -- You might say they stopped in the name of love to recognize one of their own.

The supreme Supreme, Diana Ross, has been honored on TV by her younger peers -- Mariah Carey, Donna Summer and Faith Hill. "Divas 2000: A Tribute to Diana Ross," premiered Tuesday on VH1 at 9 p.m. (ET), and is slated for replay through April 25.

The special, VH1's third "divas" installment in as many years, was taped Sunday night at Madison Square Garden's Paramount Theater. The live performance lasted 4 1/2 hours, but has been cut to two hours for TV.

"Diana Ross is a big inspiration to all of us," said Beyonce Knowles of Destiny's Child, who attended Sunday's show. "We all grew up watching everything about her -- her mike placement, her grace, her style and her class."

Touring again

While she called the "Divas" show "my peak experience," Ross also appears excited about her upcoming tour with former Supremes Lynda Laurence and Scherrie Payne. They joined only after Ross left the group in 1970.

"It's the first time I have returned to my roots -- like going back to be a trio," said Ross, who's been a solo performer for 30 years. "The fans really wanted me to go back on stage and do the Supremes music, so I went about trying to make it happen. We'll go on tour in the summer."

The tour is scheduled to kick off June 14 in Philadelphia and conclude August 5 in Las Vegas.
