Monkees regroup -- again
DETROIT, Michigan -- Three of the four Monkees are getting together for "Monkee Mania Returns 2001," a 15-city tour that begins in March. Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz and Peter Tork will reunite, according to producer David Fishof. Mike Nesmith, the ski-hatted guy who rounded out the original quartet, will not be along. The four were thrown together in 1965 for a TV sitcom that capitalized on the Beatles craze. They came out with "Daydream Believer," "I'm a Believer, "Last Train to Clarksville" and other pop hits. The band broke up in 1969, but has toured several times over the past 15 years, most recently in 1996. One of the shows on the tour is to be filmed for a TV special and a home video release, Fishof said. Rhino Records also plans to put out an updated version of the 1991 box set "Listen to the Band" to coincide with "Monkee Mania." Tour dates have not been set. Copyright 2000 Reuters.
