Ubiquitous Madonna offers free 'Music' mixes

graphic

NEW YORK -- Always one to linger at the cutting edge, Madonna was all over the Internet Tuesday, offering free remixes of her new single on several music Web sites.

"Who better than Madonna to break new ground?" asked Madonna's manager, Caresse Henry.

MTV.com, VH1.com and Sonicnet.com each had different remixes for the song "Music" from such producers as Hex Hector, Groove Armada and Tracy Young. The remixes will be available through August 16 to help promote the release next month of her new CD. A fourth remix by Deep Dish was to be available at Madonnamusic.com.

Madonna's video also was scheduled to make its debut at 4 p.m. on MTV and VH1.

"This is the first time we are creating a promotion of this magnitude across our entire network of Web sites," said Nicholas Butterworth, president and CEO of the MTVi Group, which oversees the sites.

Jagger has to 'fess up about finances

NEW YORK -- Mick Jagger has to reveal how many millions he makes so a Family Court official can calculate what he owes for child support.

Brazilian model Luciana Morad wants $35,000 a month from the 56-year- old Rolling Stones star, who fathered her 14-month-old son. Jagger wants to limit it to $5,600.

"This court should not have to guess what the respondent's income is," hearing examiner David Kirshblum ruled Tuesday.

Kirshblum was clearly displeased that Jagger, who was in town a few weeks earlier, chose to testify by phone from London.

"It is my intent that if Mr. Jagger is going to come back to this state, he's going to appear in this courtroom," he said.

Baby on way for Marc Anthony

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico -- The Anthony family's bringing a baby on board.

Puerto Rican pop star Marc Anthony's wife, Dayanara Torres, is six weeks pregnant, the Primera Hora newspaper reported Tuesday.

Anthony, who married the former Miss Universe May 10 in Las Vegas, broke the news Saturday during a concert in Miami. The singer has received five nominations for the Latin Grammy Awards next month.

Lightfoot's 'Wreck' has personal meaning for concertgoer

CHAPMAN, Kansas -- Pam Johnson knows she'll get emotional when Gordon Lightfoot comes to Kansas later this month.

Her father was among 29 people who died in a 1975 Lake Superior shipwreck, which the singer-songwriter memorialized in his song "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald." In the song, Lightfoot mentions her dad, the ship's cook.

Lightfoot's expected to perform the ballad at his August 24 performance in Salina.

"I'm counting on him playing it," she said. "I'll just bring him lots of Kleenexes, cry and enjoy the rest of the show."

Don Knotts new voice of West Virginia city

MORGANTOWN, West Virginia -- Don Knotts knows what he's talking about when he gives this West Virginia city his ringing endorsement.

The new spokesman for the Greater Morgantown Convention and Visitors Bureau -- best known as Barney Fife from the "The Andy Griffith Show" -- is a native of the north-central West Virginia city.

While in town recently, Knotts recorded messages that will be used on the bureau's Web site and answering machine.

"Take it from me," the Beverly Hills, California, resident says. "It's a great place to be."
