Moschino flies with 'Peter Pan' couture

MILAN, Italy (CNN) -- "Peter Pan" drove the imagination of Moschino designer Rossella Jardini for spring/summer 2000.

The children's classic inspired her pirate-theme outfits, complete with kerchief hats and buccaneer-type belts, that dominate her collection.

Captain Hook is not the only inspiration, either. Jardini designed demure, ladylike choices for proper young women like Wendy. Those identifying more with Tinker Bell's free spirit have smaller, more colorful designs from which to choose.

"In the fable from which we derived our concept for this collection, all the characters are practically women," Jardini says. "So of course we had to do a lot of wonderful, spirited dresses to clothe all the women."

The first part of the collection is sober, rigorous and clean, she says. The jackets, for example, are structured and fitted.

The latter part of the collection is more reminiscent of Neverland -- clothing that features a spectrum of colors, with plenty of ornamentation and prints. Skirts barely cover the derriere; pants are low on the waist and wide at the bottom.

The Moschini outfits may look glamorous, says Jardini, but real glam comes from within.

"Glamour is something that's personal," she says. "You can put on all of the beautiful, extravagant, expensive or inexpensive clothes that you want. But if you don't have glamour inside yourself, you will never have it."

CNN Style Correspondent Elsa Klensch contributed to this report.
