FireRAID array unveiled
SAN FRANCISCO (IDG) -- Steve Jobs showed VST’s new RAID array during his Macworld Expo keynote speech. The FireWire device, about the size of a shoe box, is hot-swappable and can host up to four VST FireWire drives of varying capacity – with a maximum RAID storage facility of 100GB at a data-throughput speed of 25-40MB per second. The portable device includes a built-in lithium-ion battery capable of running the array for up to two hours if AC power is lost.
All existing VST FireWire hard drives can be used with this device, offering new possibilities for RAID systems on the fly. The array has not yet reached the U.K. market.
