Transcript of video showing Elian addressing his father
Elian Gonzalez's Miami relatives released a videotape of the boy that was recorded late Wednesday night after negotiations with the Justice Department broke down. It is not clear who was in the room with Elian or whether the boy was coached. The video was received by the Spanish language network Univision. The boy's Miami relatives have not explained their motives for releasing the video before the deadline for giving up custody of the boy. CNN translated the video. Here is the transcript: Dad, I do not want to go to Cuba. If you want to, stay here. I am not going to Cuba. Dad, you saw that older woman that came to the Sister's house. She wants to see me back in Cuba. I tell them -- I am telling you -- you are saying that I want to return to Cuba. But I am telling you now that I do not want to go to Cuba. If you would like, stay here. But I do not want to go to Cuba. RELATED STORIES: Reno asks Miami family to deliver Elian today RELATED SITES: U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service |
