(CNN Student Bureau) -- Many students cringe. Others roll their eyes. Today, many young Americans give the same answer when asked their most hated subject to study: economics.
But some experts believe the subject of economics is taking an interesting turn -- it can be easy. And this may only be the beginning. How is that? Ask Dr. Greg Mankiw.
By his own admission, Mankiw has always been a slow reader, claiming he had problems getting through assigned material in college. But as he groaned through long economics
textbooks, he says he began to see something different than most of his peers.
"Economics isn't what people think it's about," he said. "There is a major misconception it's about graphs, curves and mathematics. Really it's about people.
"And unlike other subjects, it's one where a little knowledge can go a long way," the Harvard University professor said.
the simple idea helped make Mankiw a millionaire and his book one of the top selling textbooks in America. Economics by McConnel and Brue is the leading text. The "Mankiw approach" not only has his colleagues talking, but students across the country are also getting excited about a once-dreaded subject.
