DoCoMo to sell three 3G handsets
TOKYO, Japan (CNN) -- NTT DoCoMo will begin selling three mobile handsets that are compatible with its upcoming third-generation (3G) service. Japan's leading mobile carrier plans to launch the world's first fully commercialized 3G service on October 1. The three handsets to go on sale include the standard-type, video-type and data card-type models. DoCoMo will sell the handsets, along with data cards and connection cables, at its retail shops within the planned 3G service area, a 30-kilometer radius in central Tokyo. The standard N2001 model supports high-speed data communications, regular voice communications and DoCoMo's popular I-mode Internet data service. The P2101V video-type handset also has camera functions, enabling users to view still and moving pictures on a large-sized color screen. The P2401 is an "all-in-one data-card handset" that offers packet communications at speeds of up to 384 kilobits per second. The model also supports data communications service at 64 kilobits per second. NTT DoCoMo gained 7 percent or 100,000 yen in Tuesday trading to close at 1.53 million yen, but eased about 3 percent Wednesday to be at 1.49 million yen. |
