Anthrax found in Longworth House Office BuildingWASHINGTON (CNN) -- Investigators have found trace amounts of anthrax in three offices in the Longworth House Office Building, officials said Friday. The presence of anthrax was found in the 6th and 7th floor offices of Reps. John Baldacci, D-Maine, Rush Holt, D-New Jersey, and Mike Pence, R-Indiana, according to U.S. Capitol Police spokesman Lt. Dan Nichols.
U.S. Capitol Attending Physician Dr. John Eisold said they will begin identifying those who may have been in or near the offices and get them on appropriate antibiotics. "These are trace amounts," Eisold said. "We are not concerned about a significant health risk. We are confident by identification and treatment of a population that as yet is not exhibiting any symptoms that would be worrisome that we can maintain their good health." The Longworth building had been closed -- along with the Rayburn and Cannon buildings -- for environmental testing last week after anthrax was found in Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle's office in the Hart Senate Office building. The Rayburn and Cannon buildings reopened this week. The Longworth building remains closed, as well as the Hart building. |
