Features

(IDG) -- Atlus's Persona 2: Eternal Punishment comes to the U.S. to show why the series (known overseas as Shin Devil Summoner) is so popular in Japan.

The game features a unique modern-day setting, but packages it in classic RPG form: sprite based characters, turn-based combat, and plenty of magic spells and abilities for your party to learn as they gain experience points. Combining excellent yet simple aesthetics with excellent controls and an engrossing, mature story, Persona 2: Eternal Punishment is a game no RPG fan should be without.

Graphics: The anime-style character design is very cool, but there are some sprite graphics that could use a few more frames of animation. Still, the sprites mix well with the polygonal 3D locations, creating a believable world.

Sound: The sound effects, music, and voice-overs are intentionally sparse and add to the eerie story and setting of the game. But a more robust soundtrack would have been even better.

Controls: Classic RPG controls and menus abound in Persona 2. Not overly complex, but deep enough to keep you engaged during your hours of play.

Fun Factor: Its unique modern-day setting along with terrific characters and a dark story make Persona 2 an engaging game from start to finish. It's truly a must for serious RPG fans.
