Albright looks back on successes and disappointments

Secretary of State Madeleine Albright

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- When the Senate confirmed her nomination in 1997, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright became the first woman to head U.S. diplomacy.

Although she invested countless hours in the Middle East peace process, she leaves office this week with little hope for a final peace agreement. But Albright counts successes in other areas, perhaps most notably the NATO war in Kosovo and the fall of Slobodan Milosevic. One newsmagazine dubbed the Kosovo campaign "Madeleine's War."
