Missing Connecticut girl found alive in New York

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Sixteen-year-old Crystal Horrocks, who disappeared in New York City nearly four weeks ago, was found alive Wednesday morning.

"The good news is that she is alive, she is back with us," her family said. The Connecticut girl was turned over to her grandparents and legal guardians Wednesday evening by the New York Police Department.

When Crystal never got off the bus in New Haven, Connecticut, on June 22, her grandparents called the police to report her missing. She was on her way home to Hamden, just outside New Haven, from the school she attended in Pennsylvania.

The teen-ager had made the same Friday afternoon trip dozens of times before, taking a bus into New York's Port Authority Bus Terminal and changing to another bus that headed north.

The Horrockses are praising law enforcement for finding their granddaughter. The Paul & Lisa Foundation, which works closely with the city's vice squad to protect children from exploitation, had been scouring the city daily for Crystal and other missing children like her.

The Horrocks family is not talking about the circumstances of Crystal's disappearance nor what happened to her while she was gone. They said they are just happy to have her home again.
