Farrakhan's son shotCHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) -- A son of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan was shot early Thursday during an altercation on the city's South Side, police said. Police said Joshua Farrakhan, 42, was at a residence with a female companion around 1:20 a.m. CT, where they were visiting a friend. During the visit, a man pulled out a handgun and began shooting, according to police. Officer Ozzie Rodriguez said Farrakhan was shot in the right leg and the left thigh and the woman was hit on the head with a blunt object. The apparent offenders fled the scene. The woman was about to drive Farrakhan away to be treated when an ambulance reached the scene. Rescue personnel pulled Farrakhan out of the car and transported him to Advocate Christ Medical Center in nearby Oaklawn, Illinois, where he was listed in fair condition with leg wounds. A hospital spokesman said Farrakhan will most likely be admitted to the hospital. The woman was treated at the scene. Police are questioning witnesses at the scene and are looking into the motive for the shooting. ![]() |
