Are New Yorkers acting nicer?

(CNN) -- What's this? Do you walk the streets of New York and you hear less honking from angry drivers? Do you hear the shop owner bid, "Hello," while holding the door? Do you hear strangers counseling each other through tears and hugs?

Since the attacks on the World Trade Center, CNN's Jeanne Moos has noticed a definite change in the behavior of some New Yorkers. (October 4)

It's not the New York of old, that's for sure. But those seeking silver linings in the terrorist attacks of September 11 have noticed that the tragedy that tore apart their beloved city has also brought its citizens and tourists closer together. And New Yorkers, once stereotyped as a population of angry Joes, are discovering what it means to be nice.
