Viewing area of trade center site plannedNEW YORK (CNN) -- New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani said city officials are working on a plan to make the World Trade Center site more accessible to the public as early as next month.
According to the mayor, the Office of Emergency Management, the Fire Department and the Police Department are looking at a plan to build a viewing platform that would allow large numbers of people to see the site where the Twin Towers once stood. For the past month people have been able to observe the site from a smaller platform or from two vantage points in apartment buildings near the site. "There is a plan right now to try to find an appropriate place in which much larger numbers of people can get an opportunity to view the area," Giuliani said. " People have a very legitimate and honest interest in wanting to be able to see it." |
