One killed, 12 injured in Pakistani protest
JACOBABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- At least one person was killed and 12 were injured during a pro-Taliban demonstration Sunday in the Pakistani city of Jacobabad, a police source told CNN. Three police officers were taken to a hospital. The violence occurred during a confrontation between Pakistani police and marchers, who were headed toward an air base that the United States and its allies use. Militant groups who oppose the U.S. airstrikes against targets in Afghanistan called for demonstrations at the airbase. The Pakistanis have neither confirmed nor denied that there are U.S. troops and planes at the air base. No attacks are being launched against Afghanistan from Pakistan, Pakistani government officials said. |
