JERUSALEM (CNN) -- The leader of a Palestinian faction has been killed after Israeli rockets hit his West Bank office, Palestinian security forces have said.

Abu Ali Mustafa, was the chief of the Palestinian group known as the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.

At least two rockets hit the PFLP headquarters in the West Bank city of Ramallah on Monday, not far from Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat's office.

The incident follows the deaths of 10 people from the Israeli and Palestinian side over the weekend.

Israel told Reuters on Sunday that it held Arafat and the Palestinian Authority responsible for the Israeli deaths.

Prime Minister Ariel Sharon convened an overnight meeting with his Israeli cabinet ministers and security officials to discuss the latest violence.

Arafat, meanwhile, told the news agency he would not be deterred by Israeli strikes against Palestinian strategic facilities.

The Palestinian leader is due to hold talks, brokered by Germany, with Israeli Foreign Minister Shimon Peres later this week.

Israeli warplanes, tanks and bulldozers hit Palestinian security buildings on Sunday. F-16 and F-15 jets struck at Palestinian security headquarters in Gaza and the West Bank during a pre-dawn raid, killing two Palestinians, Palestinian sources said.

A Palestinian security post in Rafah, in southern Gaza, was damaged as well as several roadblocks.

Israeli tanks rolled into Ramallah, firing shells at three Palestinian security posts, injuring three people, the Palestinian Red Crescent said.

The Israeli move was in response to three of its soldiers being killed after two Palestinian gunmen entered an Israeli base in Gaza on Saturday. The two Palestinians were later shot dead.

Other Israelis to have died included three motorists shot in two separate roadside incidents.

Two people died in one incident while the other was a cloth-seller who was on his way to do business with a Palestinian.

An armed group linked to Arafat's Fatah section claimed responsibility for the death of the cloth merchant.

Israeli helicopters fired six missiles and destroyed a Palestinian police post in the town of Tulkarem close to where the cloth salesman, Dov Roseman, 57, died. Six people were reported injured by a Palestinian security source.
