Minnesota Gov. Ventura won't seek re-election

ST. PAUL, Minnesota (CNN) -- Gov. Jesse Ventura announced Tuesday that he will not seek re-election, a spokeswoman for his office confirmed.

Ventura, a former pro wrestler, made the announcement during a live interview on Minnesota Public Radio.

In the interview, Ventura cited family considerations for his decision.

Media outlets in Minnesota have recently reported that Ventura's 22-year-old son, Tyrel, had used the official governor's residence for parties and some staff had complained about the mess.

"He's just not interested in continuing," said the spokeswoman.

Four years ago, Ventura stunned the state political establishment when, running as a third-party candidate, he won the governor's office.

The election is in November, and a new governor will be sworn in January 6.
