(CNN) -- KLM Royal Dutch Airlines ranks as Europe's fourth-biggest airline but it has been struggling to compete with the likes of British Airways and Lufthansa.

The company entered into merger talks with British Airways, but that came to naught because of complex international rules.

KLM's network connects some 350 destinations in more than 80 countries on six continents.

With U.S. partners Northwest and Continental, it is part of the Wings marketing alliance.

Its also owns low-cost airline buzz and 26 percent of Kenya Airways.

The Dutch government still owns 14 percent of KLM.
