Airlines: Ryanair

(CNN) -- Ryanair, Europe's second-biggest low-cost airline under the stewardship of charismatic Chief Executive Michael O'Leary, has shaken the foundations of the European airline industry.

Low-cost airlines like Ryanair and easyJet are expanding their fleets as demand continues to grow, even as traditional flag carriers cut routes and jobs and ground aircraft to counter the impact of an economic slowdown and September 11.

Ryanair, has agreed to buy loss-making rival Go and 200 737-800 aircraft from Boeing to meet demand, expects traffic to grow 30 to 35 percent per year over the next two years.

After successfully challenging British Airways and Ireland's AerLingus, it has launched services in Germany.

Tony Ryan, who founded the company in 1995, and his family own 10 percent of Ryanair, while O'Leary owns 7 percent.
