Nikkei rises above 11,000 on tech jumpTOKYO, Japan (Reuters) -- Tokyo's benchmark Nikkei average rose two percent to go above the key 11,000 mark in early trade on Monday, led by gains in NEC Corp and other major tech issues after the tech-laced U.S. Nasdaq jumped five percent. PC and chipmaker NEC was up 2.52 percent at 855 yen in early trading to help push the tech-focused Nikkei 2.04 percent or 220.42 points higher to 11,046.51. It was above 11,000 for the first time since June 14. Itochu Corp failed to join the rally, ask-only with no buyers at 415 yen, 3.5 percent below Friday's close. The trading house said after the close on Friday that it would issue a maximum 158 million new shares, equivalent to about 11 percent of those outstanding, in a move that could significantly dilute per-share value. |
