From Jim Vojtech
CNN

LOS ANGELES, California (CNN) -- Rock musician Marilyn Manson is being sued for wrongful death by the mother of a woman who was killed in a car wreck after the controversial artist allegedly gave her drugs, CNN has learned.

Maria St. John is seeking unspecified damages and attorney fees in the death of her daughter, Jennifer Syme. The lawsuit claims Manson, 33, was negligent for allegedly instructing Syme to drive in her incapacitated condition. The lawsuit was filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, according to St. John's attorney, Leonard Samuels.

Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner, issued a statement Wednesday saying he had not yet reviewed the lawsuit, which seeks to hold him responsible for the April 2, 2001 crash. Syme died at the scene.

"Words cannot express the pain that I feel over the loss of Jennifer Syme's life," said Manson. "After Jennifer was sent home safely with a designated driver, she later got behind the wheel of her own car for reasons known only to her. Her death is sad and tragic."

Samuels confirmed Manson had not yet been served with the lawsuit as of Wednesday evening.
