Clooney's coffin, which will be buried Friday in her native Maysville, Kentucky, was not brought to the church.

Clooney, 74, and her sister Betty began singing on a Cincinnati radio station in 1945 to support themselves after being left to fend for themselves by their parents. Her break came in 1951, when the novelty single "Come on-a My House" became a big hit and started her career as a star and headliner.

She married actor Jose Ferrer in 1953, and they had five children before they divorced. She remarried in 1996 to Hollywood dancer Dante DiPaolo.

Known for her distinctive, rich voice, Clooney was awarded a lifetime Grammy award in February for a career spanning seven decades.
