Ramzi Binalshibh: Key facts

  • Ramzi Binalshibh is named as an unindicted co-conspirator in Zacarias Moussaoui's federal indictment.
  • The German Federal Court of Justice issued a warrant for the arrest of Ramzi Mohamed Abdullah Binalshibh on September 21, 2001, for suspicion of membership in a terrorist organization, murder of several thousand people, and other crimes, in connection with the September 11th attacks.
  • He was a member of the al Qaeda cell in Hamburg, Germany.
  • The Hamburg cell included September 11 hijackers Mohamed Atta, Ziad Jarrahi, and Marwan Al-Shehhi.
  • Four times, he attempted to get a visa for entry to the United States, but was denied each time.
  • He had contacted American flight schools.
  • Some investigators believe he was originally intended to be the 20th hijacker.
  • He handled numerous money transfers to hijacker Marwan Al-Shehhi and for Zacarias Moussaoui.
  • Until his capture in Karachi, Binalshibh's whereabouts were unknown. He was last seen in Hamburg in August 2001.
