Omar al-Faruq, also known as Mahmoud bin Ahmad Assegaf, was arrested June 5. He is a Kuwait national.

Sources in Washington said he was a "significant" fund-raiser for the terrorist group, but "not in the top 20" of the al Qaeda leadership.

Indonesian and American sources said al-Faruq's telephone number and name were found in a phone book recovered during the arrest of former al Qaeda operations chief Abu Zubayda in Pakistan.

Sources in Washington declined to say which country is holding al-Faruq.
