Senegal through after 3-3 draw with Uruguay
SUWON, South Korea (Reuters) -- Debutants Senegal advanced into the last 16 of the World Cup on Tuesday with a nerve-racking 3-3 draw against Uruguay, a result which dumped the South American former champions out of the finals. Senegal raced into a three-goal lead in the first half. Khalilou Fadiga scored the first when the Africans were awarded a controversial penalty in the 20th minute. Pape Bouba Diop, scorer of the winner in the shock 1-0 win over France in the opening match, added two more in the 26th and 38th minutes. Richard Morales pulled one back just 17 seconds into the second half and Diego Forlan grabbed another in the 69th. Alvaro Recoba equalised from another controversial penalty two minutes from time. Uruguay would have qualified if they had scored a fourth. But Senegal held on to a draw which left them second in Group A and heading for a second round clash with either Argentina, England or Sweden. Denmark is the other Group A team through to the second round, finishing on top with seven points. The Danes unceremoniously dumped champions France of the World Cup, winning 2-0 in Incheon on Tuesday.
