S. Korea lifts industrial output
SEOUL, South Korea (Reuters) -- South Korea's industrial output rose a provisional 2.9 percent in September on the month, new government figures show.
The result was aided by strong exports and comes after a solid 3.4 percent gain in August, the National Statistical Office (NSO) said Wednesday.
The seasonally adjusted monthly reading beat forecasts for a 1.5 percent rise in a Reuters survey of 10 economists conducted this week.
In the July-September quarter, industrial output grew 1.0 percent from the previous three-month period, compared with a 0.4 percent drop in the second quarter, the agency said.
Without taking into account seasonal factors, output also rose 6.6 percent in September year-on-year, versus August's 1.5 percent rise and a 1.8 percent rise in September, 2002, the NSO said.
