Finland best for business - report
LONDON, England -- Finland has the world's best climate for business and also the most competitive economy, according to a report by the World Economics Forum. In its annual Global Competitiveness Report, the group ranks countries worldwide on a number of factors -- including the conditions for sustained growth, and the quality of the country's institutions and infrastructure. Countries are then rated in two surveys, assessing business competitiveness and economic growth prospects. In both surveys, Finland overtook the United States for the top spot. The UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland all fell in the ratings of countries with the best business environment, while France rose up from 15th to 10th place. South Africa, at 27th place, was the best country for business in Africa. In the world's most competitive economies, a total of six European countries ranked in the top 10, with Germany in 16th place and France in 26th. Taiwan and Singapore are rated as Asia's best performing economies, with Japan rising from 16th to 11th place this year. Botswana is Africa's most competitive economy, ranking 36th in the overall list. The World Economics Forum report surveyed 102 countries, up from 80 last year. Coverage was extended to increase coverage of Africa, from 8 to 25 countries.
