(CNN) -- A former Presbyterian minister slated for execution Wednesday night for killing a doctor who performed abortions said he has no regrets for his actions.

Paul Hill, 49, was convicted of killing Dr. John Britton and an escort, James Barrett, outside a Pensacola, Florida, women's clinic. Hill shot and wounded Barrett's wife and another escort as they drove into the clinic. Doctors who performed abortions were using escorts at the time because of the fear of violence from protesters.

"I can honestly say that if I had not acted when I did, in the way I did, that I could not look myself in the mirror," said Hill, scheduled to die by lethal injection at 6 p.m. at Florida State Prison.

Kicked out of his church for promoting violence against abortion providers, Hill never denied the shooting and filed only the mandatory appeal in Florida Supreme Court. He dismissed his attorneys long ago..

"I believe that the moment I'm executed, that my soul will be made perfect in holiness, and I will be in the immediate presence of the Lord, and I will be forever with him. So I'm looking forward to that," Hill said Tuesday.

With his execution looming, some clinics providing abortions are on the alert for violence.

"We know events can trigger acts of violence, and we know that those in the extreme wing of the anti-choice movement are predicting a backlash, and we know we need to take these people seriously," said Victoria Saporta of the National Abortion Federation.
