SYDNEY, Australia -- Australia's defeated Rugby World Cup captain George Gregan will continue playing for the Wallabies next season, according to Australian Rugby Union chief John O'Neill.
The veteran scrumhalf said on Saturday he would make a decision about his future next month after his side's defeat by England in the final.
But O'Neill told a Sydney radio station that Gregan was already "signed up."
"George is going to play on," said O'Neill. "He's signed up. The ink's not dry on the paper but he is playing on."
The 30-year-old has made 95 international appearances and would almost certainly pass David Campese's Australian record of 101 caps if he continues.
O'Neill also indicated that coach Eddie Jones would see out his contract which has another year to run.
"Eddie is staying on until at least the end of the year and may well go beyond that," said O'Neill.
"We'll have a good chat but he's done a great job. I've never met a bloke who works harder."
