Milan and Roma keep pace with Juve
MILAN, Italy -- AC Milan and Roma joined Juventus at the top of Serie A with comfortable wins on Sunday. Ukrainian striker Andriy Shevchenko scored twice and Jon Dahl Tomasson added another as Milan beat Lecce 3-0 at the San Siro. Roma won by the same scoreline against Ancona thanks to second half goals from Vincenzo Montella, Francesco Totti and Marco Delvecchio. Parma needed a late equalizer from Adriano to earn a 1-1 draw against Siena, maintaining their unbeaten start while Stefano Fiore struck on 87 minutes as Lazio salvaged a 2-2 draw at Empoli. Shevchenko opened the scoring for Milan from Cafu's cross on 21 minutes at the San Siro, shortly after Manuel Rui Costa had hit the post for the European champions. The Ukrainian's second followed on 69 minutes as he beat two Lecce defenders before smashing home a powerful shot. Shevchenko also started the move for Milan's third in the final minute, with Dane Tomasson getting the final touch from Brazilian new signing Kaka's pass. Vincenzo Montella's arrival as a halftime substitute transformed Roma's fortunes against Ancona, with the Italian forward taking just three minutes to put Fabio Capello's side in front. Totti drove home the second on 78 minutes before Delvecchio -- another substitute -- popped up to head home a cross from Greek defender Traianos Dellas late in the match. In other matches, Sampdoria beat Brescia 2-1, Chievo won 4-1 against Perugia and Modena beat Bologna 2-0. Andrea Zanchetta's 30-meter free kick, his second goal of the game was the pick of the four Chievo scored in their home win over Perugia. Roma and Milan have earned 10 points from four games, the same total as Italian champions Juventus, who won 2-0 at Reggina on Saturday. Roma claim top spot by virtue of their superior goal difference.
