Rivaldo agrees to stay at AC Milan

MILAN, Italy -- European champions AC Milan say World Cup winner Rivaldo is staying on despite last week agreeing to cancel the Brazilian's contract.

"Rivaldo remains at Milan and tomorrow will leave with the squad for Vigo," Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani told the club's official website after a meeting with the player.

Milan face Celta Vigo in the Champions League on Wednesday and Rivaldo has not featured in a major club match this season. He has been considering offers.

They included approaches from English clubs but on Sunday Galliani asked Rivaldo to reconsider his decision to leave the Italian Serie A giants..

Rivaldo, who joined AC Milan in 2002 from Barcelona, has a contract with AC Milan running through 2005 that pays him $6.8 million a year.

Transfers of players between European clubs are not permitted again until a January 'window' and Galliani left open the possibility that Rivaldo could still leave the club then.
