Del Piero renews Juventus contract
TURIN, Italy, (Reuters) -- Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero has renewed his contract with the Italian champions until June 2008, the club has announced.
The player's five-year deal is worth 7.9 million euros ($9.27 million) a year, including 2.3 million euros in advertising rights, said Juventus, who took out a two-page advertisement in several newspapers to celebrate the event.
"A knight never leaves a Lady," trumpeted the ad in La Gazzetta dello Sport.
It played on Juventus's nickname as "The Old Lady" and referred to the Italian international striker's long association with the club.
Del Piero has spent his entire Serie A career with Juve since making his top flight debut against Foggia in 1993. He helped them to win the 1996 Champions League and five Serie A titles.
Del Piero did not take part in Juve's 2-1 win over Greek side Olympiakos in the Champions League on Tuesday, having suffered a calf injury two weeks ago that will keep him out of action until November.
