MADRID, Spain -- David Beckham returned to training at Real Madrid on Friday, removing fears he might miss England's crucial European Championship qualifier against Turkey in Istanbul

He was pronounced fit after suffering a foot injury that kept him out of Real's Champions League game against Porto this week.

The Spaniards announced that the former Manchester United midfielder would join their squad for Sunday's league game at home to Espanyol.

The England captain damaged the sole of his right foot in Real's 2-0 defeat by Valencia last weekend and was concerned that his place in the England side for the decisive Group Seven qualifier on October 11 was in doubt, but his return to training has allayed those fears.

Real's club doctor Juan Carlos Hernandez said: "He's almost certain to be fit for England - we spoke about that at the start. Beckham asked if he would be able to play and I said that he'll be fine.

"There are no worries at all. The foot still hurts a bit when you touch it and he has to train with a bandage on but with that he's okay.

"I've still got a doubt about Sunday but he ran fine with a bandage on Thursday and if he has a reaction then maybe he'll need another day or so. "

Beckham had not trained since playing against Valencia, when he suffered an acute inflammation of the sole of his right foot.

He has ben treated with anti-inflammatory drugs, bandages and physiotherapy.

Beckham recovered from a groin injury to play in the Euro 2004 qualifiers against Macedonia and Liechtenstein.
