Chelsea target star defender Lucio
LONDON, England -- Big spending Chelsea have entered the race to sign Brazilian World Cup defender Lucio from Bayer Leverkusen, the Bundesliga club's general manager Ilja Kaenzig confirmed. "It is true that Chelsea have registered their interest in Lucio," Kaenzig told Sport 1. Serie A leaders Juventus are also believed to be in the race for the $15m rated man. Bayer's long-term interest in Chelsea striker Mickael Forssell may work to the benefit of the Premier League club when the transfer window reopens. "Every club that wants to sign Lucio must realise that he is world class," added Kaenzig. Money appears to be no object under Chelsea's Roman empire - with 111 million pounds (175.5m dollars) already spent on new players. Finnish striker Forssell is currently on loan at fellow Premier League side Birmingham City. "We have not lost contact," explained Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Jurgen Kohler. "We are still interested in him."
