MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes will be out of action for up to four weeks after surgery on a groin injury, his club said on Tuesday.
"Paul Scholes's groin problem has re-occurred and he had to have surgery this morning on both groins,' said the Premiership champions. " He's likely to be out for three to four weeks."
Scholes misses England's friendly against Denmark on November 16 plus a number of key games for United.
The 28-year-old was troubled by the injury earlier this season and missed four games during a month on the sidelines.
A period of rest looked to have cleared up the problem and he returned in the 4-1 win at Leicester City in late September.
As well as missing the start of United's League Cup campaign, Scholes sits out at least two league games including a trip to Liverpool.
He could also possibly miss both of November's Champions League games against Rangers and Panathinaikos.
