Coulibaly hat-trick shocks Schalke
HAMBURG, Germany -- Soumaila Coulibaly grabbed a hat-trick as SC Freiburg went on a four-goal frenzy in extra time to demolish Schalke 7-3 in the second round of the German Cup. Schalke seemed on course to victory when Sergio Pinto and Filip Troyan reversed a 2-1 deficit for a 3-2 lead in Freiburg. But Dennis Kruppke forced extra time with the 3-3 equalizer in the 84th minute, before Zlatan Bajramovich, two strikes from Coulibali, and Alexander Lashwili delighted the home fans. Earlier, Freiburg led twice from Coulibaly (8th) and Iashwili (42nd), with Christian Poulsen scoring Schalke's first (37th). In the other all-Bundesliga game, lowly Borussia Moenchengladbach defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-1. The hosts led from Igor Demo and Joonas Kolkka after 23 minutes and Jan Koller's 86th-minute penalty came too late for Dortmund to reverse matters. It was the second painful defeat for Dortmund within a few days following a 3-0 Bundesliga drubbing Sunday in Bochum. In other action, Second Division leaders Alemannia Aachen beat 1860 Munich 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 deadlock. Eintracht Frankfurt also lost against a side from the 'second' -- 2-1 at home to MSV Duisburg. Hanover 96 lost 2-0 at Third Division Braunschweig. Bundesliga frontrunners Bayer Leverkusen won 5-0 at second division Union Berlin where home keeper Robert Wulnikowski allowed Hanno Balitsch to lob him from 25 meters in the first minute. SV Hamburg rebounded from a 1-0 deficit with four goals in 15 minutes from David Jarolim, Marcel Maltritz, Mehdi Mahdavikia and Bernardo Romeo for a 4-2 away win at Unterhaching. It was Hamburg's first win under coach Klaus Toppmoeller, who replaced Kurt Jara last week.
