LONDON, England -- Thierry Henry scored twice as Premier League leaders Arsenal romped to a 4-1 win at struggling Leeds United on Saturday.

Henry netted on eight and 33 minutes, with a Robert Pires goal sandwiched between, as the Gunners had the match won by halftime. Gilberto Silva scored Arsenal's fourth after the break.

Chelsea kept pace with a 1-0 win at Everton, while Manchester United beat Portsmouth 3-0.

Arsenal certainly showed little sign of being unduly affected by the massive fines and wholesale bans handed down to them on Thursday after their fracas at Old Trafford earlier in the season.

Henry latched on to a long ball from Ashley Cole to net his opener and Pires doubled the lead on 17 minutes from Fredrik Ljungberg's cross. Henry's second came after Dennis Bergkamp had struck the post.

Brazilian World Cup star Gilberto Silva made it 4-0 soon after the interval, although second-bottom Leeds mounted a spirited second half fightback and pulled a goal back through Alan Smith, who also hit the post.

But Chelsea stay just a point behind after Romanian striker Adrian Mutu got the only goal of their game at Everton, while United are a point further back after their win at Old Trafford.

United, beaten at home by Fulham last weekend, made no such mistake as Diego Forlan gave them a first-half lead, Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo added his first for the club and fellow substitute Roy Keane smashed home a late third.

Robbie Fowler's first league goal of the season, a fine long-range strike, set Manchester City on their way to a 2-0 win at Southampton, completed by a breakaway Paulo Wanchope goal late on,

Alan Shearer saw his late penalty saved by Thomas Sorensen as Newcastle were held 1-1 by improving Aston Villa. who had led through who had led through Dion Dublin. Lauren Robert equalised on the stroke of half-time.

Nigerian star Jay-Jay Okocha hit the woodwork with no less than three attempts, but it was a Kevin Nolan goal on 73 minutes that ended David Pleat's unbeaten run as Tottenham Hotspur manager as Bolton won 1-0 at White Hart Lane.

Recalled Brazilian star Juninho wrapped by Middlesbrough's 2-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers after a brilliant long-range effort from Spaniard Gaizka Mendieta had put Boro ahead.
