Larsson revives Celtic's Euro plan
GLASGOW, Scotland -- Henrik Larsson maintained his prolific European scoring record for Celtic as the Scottish club revived their Champions League ambitions with a 3-1 victory over Anderlecht.
The Swede headed his 32nd goal in Europe for Celtic after 12 minutes before Liam Miller lashed a shot just inside the post to double the advantage five minutes later.
And Giovane Elber enjoyed a dream return to his former club as he scored Olympique Lyon's winner in a 2-1 victory over Bayern Munich in the group's other tie.
Celtic, who started the day bottom of Group A, put the result beyond doubt after 29 minutes when Chris Sutton headed in from close range.
Anderlecht improved after the break and Aruna Dindane scored a consolation goal, firing home from a tight angle.
Earlier, Ivica Mornar's penalty had been saved by Celtic keeper Magnus Hedman.
Brazilian striker Elber , let loose in Munich's Olympic stadium, slotted in from a tight angle with his left foot after 53 minutes to put the French champions top of the section.
Roy Makaay's fourth goal in as many Champions League games was not enough for four-times European champions Bayern who had the lion's share of possession.
A capacity 59,000 crowd booed the German champions at the final whistle but Elber, who played six seasons in Munich, was given a standing ovation when he was substituted 12 minutes from time.
Lyon were given a flying start after six minutes when Brazilian Juninho arrowed a superb free kick in off the post.
Ballack turned provider eight minutes later with a perfect through ball for winger Ze Roberto to cross for Makaay to convert easily.
Bayern dominated the rest of the first half but they became ragged after the break before Elber struck what turned out to be the winning goal.
