LYON, France -- Cameroon won 3-1 against a team consisting of former teammates of Marc-Vivien Foe in a charity match played at Lyon's Gerland stadium in memory of the midfielder.
Cameroon midfielder Foe, who also played for Lyon, died at the age of 28 shortly after collapsing on the pitch during the African champions' Confederations Cup semifinal with Colombia at the stadium in June.
Patrick Mboma, Modest Mbami and Samuel Eto'o scored for Cameroon with Brazilian striker Sonny Anderson -- another ex-Lyon player -- replying for the "Friendship Team".
The line-up also featured Thierry Henry, Robert Pires and Sylvain Wiltord of Arsenal and Nicolas Anelka of Manchester City.
Kevin Keegan of Manchester City, where Foe spent last season on loan, Lyon's Paul Le Guen and Daniel Leclercq of Lens shared coaching duties.
The match, organized by former French international Basile Boli and the French Professional League, raised money for a charity fund chaired by Foe's widow, Marie-Louise Foe and was attended by 23,962 spectators, as well as being shown live on French television.
It was played under the motto "a lion never dies, it sleeps" and a banner in the stands read "another star now shines above Gerland."
"I'd like to thank all the people who supported me and all those who were present today. It's a mark of love for Marc-Vivien," Marie-Louise said.
"Some 25,000 persons and a field of great players, it was the best homage we could pay to Marco," said Boli.
Foe won French championships with Lens and Lyon, and made 65 appearances for Cameroon, playing at two World Cups and winning the African Nations Cup twice.
