Figo may change mind over quitting
LISBON, Portugal -- Real Madrid's Portuguese midfielder Luis Figo hinted on Wednesday he may change his mind about quitting international soccer after Euro 2004.
"My thinking is to retire after the European championship but at the right time we will know something about my future," the 31-year-old said ahead of Saturday's friendly against Greece.
"That is my thinking but as I have never made long-term plans I can't say it will be that way."
The 2001 world player of the year has a contract with Real Madrid until 2006 and has played 97 times for his country.
Portuguese Federation chairman Gilberto Madail said this week he hoped to see Figo continue to play internationally.
Figo strained ankle ligaments during Real's 4-1 loss at Seville on Sunday but a team doctor said the player was expected to recover for the match in Aveiro.
