Ferguson set to continue at United

Story Tools

MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester United coach Sir Alex Ferguson has agreed a new contract that will see him continue with the England champions until 2007.

"We have agreed the details and I think it is basically straightforward," Ferguson was quoted as saying on United's Web site.

The 61-year-old, who has coached United since 1986, said recent treatment for an irregular heart condition would not affect his future at the club.

"I'm fine," said Ferguson. "It's just the sensationalism in newspapers and there's nothing you can do about that.

Whenever a celebrity goes into hospital nowadays, somebody's going to inform the papers and that's what happened. The doctor has seen me and he's fine with it so there's absolutely no problem. I enjoy the work I do and I'll continue."
