ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (CNN) -- Pakistani police have arrested five suspected al Qaeda operatives, including a Nigerian, Adil al Jazzeri, thought to be a confidant of terror mastermind Osama bin Laden, the Pakistani Information Ministry said Wednesday.

Another of those arrested was identified as Abu Sufwan. The identities of the other three, said to be Afghans, were not disclosed.

The ministry said all five were arrested in Peshawar. A spokesman said a large amount of cash was also seized, but he gave no figures.

The ministry said Pakistani intelligence agencies had been investigating the five operatives for some time.

Pakistani officials have so far arrested more than 500 people believed linked to al Qaeda and have turned them over to U.S. officials, the ministry spokesman said.
