Train accident in India kills 7

NEW DELHI, India (CNN) -- Railway officials fear seven people were killed and another 35 injured when five cars of a passenger train derailed near Mysore in southern India.
The rear car of the Mysore-to-Bangalore train derailed at about 6:25 a.m. (0055 GMT) on Thursday, pulling four others off the tracks with it.
A journalist with the United News of India said the train had just crossed a bridge on the Kaveri river when the cars jumped the tracks, about 140 kilometers (90 miles) southwest of the state capital, Bangalore.
The injured are being taken to hospitals in Mysore, the officials said.
Indian Railways runs one of the largest train networks in the world, but has a poor safety record. An average of 300 people die in rail accidents every year in India.
