Philippines mosque attacks kills 2

MANILA, Philippines (CNN) -- Two people have been killed and several more injured in a grenade attack on a mosque in the southern Philippines, police say.

Authorities on the island of Mindanao province say assailants threw at least two grenades into the congregation during midday prayers Friday at a mosque in Cotabato province.

So far, no one has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Philippines is the only predominantly Christian nation in Asia, although the southern islands are home to a mainly Muslim population.

Four Muslim militant groups including the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and the al Qaeda-linked Abu Sayyaf have been fighting a long-running armed campaign to set up an independent Islamic state on Mindanao.
