Balcony fall star still critical
LONDON, England -- Actress Laura Sadler remains in a "critical" condition after falling 40 foot from the balcony of her boyfriend and co-star George Calil's apartment, said a hospital spokeswoman Tuesday. Sadler, 22, -- who plays a nurse in popular hospital TV drama Holby City -- was rushed to hospital Sunday after she was found by police at the foot of his house in Holland Park, West London. A spokeswoman for Charing Cross Hospital, London -- where the actress is being treated -- said: "There has been no change in Laura Sadler's condition overnight and as of 6.30 this morning she remains critical." British actor Calil, 30 -- who plays her on-screen drug dealing boyfriend -- was arrested on Sunday in connection with the incident and has been released on police bail pending further inquiries. Calil said he was "absolutely devastated" by the incident: "She is the love of my life. I am so incredibly upset over this -- I just cannot believe what has happened," he said in a statement reported by the UK Press Association. "I have co-operated with the police fully in their investigation, which continues. For this reason, I cannot at the moment talk specifically about the events of Sunday morning," he said. Calil -- who starred alongside Tom Hanks in the TV series Band of Brothers, directed by Steven Spielberg -- added: "I hope that everyone will join me in praying for Laura's speedy recovery. My thoughts are with her whole family, particularly her mother, at this very upsetting time." Calil had only bought the flat recently and had discussed with Sadler moving in together, Calil's spokesman said. The couple are "very much in love," he said and the pair were planning a holiday in Greece this summer. "He is absolutely in pieces about it. He just wants to be by her bedside, just for a minute. But he is not able to go back to the hospital because the family, understandably, want to be with her at the moment," he said. Sadler had appeared in TV programmes Inspector Morse, Jane Eyre, Ruth Rendell Mysteries and Belfry Witches before landing a role in Holby City which attracts millions of viewers a week. The British-born actress made her TV debut in the children's program, Grange Hill.
