LONDON, England -- British politician George Galloway has issued High Court libel proceedings against a British newspaper over claims about his alleged links with ex-Iraqi president Saddam Hussein.
The claim against the publisher of the The Daily Telegraph is for damages and an injunction to refrain from further publication of specific allegations or any similar defamatory allegation concerning the Glasgow MP.
The broadsheet had made allegations against the politician and his links with the former Iraqi regime last April.
Charles Moore, editor of The Daily Telegraph, confirmed on Friday that solicitors for Telegraph Group Ltd had received a claim form from Galloway's solicitors commencing proceedings for libel.
He said that the action would be defended.
