LONDON, England (CNN) -- A former school caretaker accused of murdering 10-year-old girls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman has appeared in court with his former girlfriend.

The two accused appeared at London's Old Bailey Monday in connection with the start of Ian Huntley's murder trial next week.

The parents of Wells and Chapman were also at the pre-trial hearing. Details of the hearing cannot be reported for legal reasons.

Huntley, 29, and his former girlfriend Maxine Carr, 26, will both return to the court next Monday next week for the start of the trial.

Huntley, the former caretaker at Soham Village College in Cambridgeshire, eastern England, denies the murder of the two Soham schoolgirls.

Carr, a former teaching assistant at the two 10-year-olds' primary school in Soham, denies two charges of assisting an offender and a single charge of conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

They were arrested weeks after the best friends went missing on August 4 last year.

The girls' bodies were found on the outskirts of the air force base at Lakenheath on August 17.
